Elmo-roll is a fast and reliable printer for use, where the print on the substrate must be readable, but need not to be of bookprinting quality. When the ink is transferred to the cold film, it quickly becomes dry. Elmo-roll printers are produced in some variations, with different means of control.

R-35 EM is also driven by friction, but has a clutch, allowing the prints to be spaced, for example by use of photomarks on the packaging film.
